Nearly 100 model railroaders have gathered in Regina for Railfest, the annual model railroad show. The event features a large variety of model trains, from the age of steam engines up to the huge modern diesel-powered locomotives. While some of the model railroaders used to work on the rails, most do not, they just love the hobby. The event is hosted by the Echo Valley Railroad Guild. There are intricate model train displays from across the province and are about more than just the trains. “For me, it’s an artistic expression,” Bill Stahl with the Echo Valley Railroad Guild said. “I like the modeling; I like particularly the scenery. I have a reputation at being really good for carving rocks.” “I paint the backdrops, so it’s a form of artistic expression to make a three-dimensional picture,” he added. The event began on Saturday at the Caledonian Curling Club and continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $10 per person or $20 for the family.
