The Government of Saskatchewan is moving forward in creating the framework to allow tailgating events at Mosaic Stadium. The Tailgating Act was introduced into the legislature on Thursday. The province says the specific regulations will be introduced after act receives royal assent in the spring sitting of the legislature – meaning it will be put into effect in time for the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 2026 season. According to Alana Ross, the minister responsible for the SLGA, introducing the act now will allow the province to collaborate with the Roughriders, municipal governments and police to work out the regulations. “It will be the responsibilities of the Roughriders and of the city, for providing the safety and security, and we’ll be working with them to make sure [of] that,” she told reporters following question period. “We want this to be a safe, fun opportunity for families and a wonderful experience for the Roughriders fans to come out and enjoy the games.” Saskatchewan is one of the last provinces to not allow tailgating. Roughriders’ president and CEO Craig Reynolds said the team is looking at other jurisdictions for guidance. “We’d like to have tailgating very similar to what you would see across the country here,” he explained. “What you see at other CFL cities, and what you see in other sports environments in the U.S., whether it be college or professional football. So, a very similar model is what we’d be working towards.” The eligibility of other events for tailgating will be considered after the 2026 CFL season, according to the province.
